TMB offered a great opportunity to really get to know Bertelsmann and its different divisions, what kind of people are responsible for its success as well as to work on the existing and upcoming challenges the company faces. I guess the most interesting aspect of Talent Meets Bertelsmann was the actual workshop. I had the great opportunity to work with a team consisting of incredibly talented and interesting people. Our goal was to develop a new smartphone-only publication for Gruner + Jahr. After intense discussions, we presented our ideas and concepts to the jury, which included top managers such as Thomas Rabe and Thomas Hesse, and discussed our business case with them, as well as with other Bertelsmann managers. Another highlight was the award ceremony and especially the after-party in Kreuzberg, where I had the chance to talk to many Bertelsmann employees and TMB alumni. Needless to say, it was a fantastic night. The event concluded with individual coaching with a Bertelsmann HR executive, where we discussed different career opportunities.
What happened afterwards:
After TMB, I concluded my studies of Public Management and Governance and wrote my Bachelor’s thesis about trust relationships between politicians, lobbyists and journalists. I stayed in touch with Bertelsmann through various events and also through regular contact with the Bertelsmann management. Thanks to the hard work we put into our developed product at TMB, we achieved second place, which was awarded with a trip to the Gruner + Jahr headquarters in Hamburg. This visit gave us another insight to the world of Bertelsmann. Later on, I received an invitation to an arvato event and had the chance to work on a business case for arvato infoscore, which is the division I work for today!
What I’m doing now:
I was hired in March 2013 as an executive assistant to Ulrich Bongartz, managing director of BFS Finance. BFS Finance is part of arvato infoscore, and offers various kinds of financial services, such as factoring, accounting and payment solutions, as well as collection services. Besides my work on the day-to-day business, like presentations and briefings, I work on a great variety of projects, for example mergers and acquisitions, reorganization of internal processes as well as business development. My position offers me the great opportunity to experience this challenging business from a strategic point of view, as well as through the operational projects with the different business units. Bertelsmann and arvato offer many exciting job opportunities, but most importantly, challenge you to be an entrepreneur, something I always found to be one of the most difficult achievements, but possibly also one of the most rewarding aspects of your career.
Without a doubt, Talent Meets Bertelsmann is a unique opportunity in order to get to know Bertelsmann’s values and corporate culture as well as its employees. But most importantly it’s a lot of fun.
